What factors should be considered when using lubricating grease?

The factors that should be considered when using lubricating grease include the working temperature, operating speed, load size, working environment, and grease supply method of the machinery. ‌

Temperature: The selection of lubricating grease should consider the working temperature and ambient temperature of the machinery. Generally speaking, the operating temperature of lubricating grease should be 20-30 degrees Celsius below its drip point to ensure its performance and lifespan. ‌

Rotational speed: Machinery running at high speeds will generate higher temperatures, causing the lubricating grease to become thinner. Therefore, thicker lubricating grease should be selected to adapt to the conditions of high-speed operation. ‌

Load: Choosing lubricating grease based on the size of the load is the key to ensuring lubrication effectiveness. When the load is high, lubricating grease with low cone penetration (high viscosity) should be selected to withstand greater pressure. If the machinery is subjected to both heavy loads and impact loads, lubricating grease containing extreme pressure additives should be selected. ‌

Working environment and grease supply method: Due to different working environments of machinery, lubricating grease with corresponding properties should be selected. For example, lubricating grease with water resistance should be selected in humid environments; In dusty environments, thick lubricating grease containing graphite can be used; In acidic environments, menstrual lipids can be selected; If there are special requirements for sealing, barium based grease should be selected. ‌

In addition, factors such as the purpose of using lubricating grease, the working temperature, load, speed, environment, and the medium it comes into contact with, as well as the method of adding lubricating grease, should also be considered. When choosing lubricating grease, the purpose of using lubricating grease should be clearly defined, whether it is mainly for reducing friction, protection or sealing, and the appropriate lubricating grease should be selected according to the specific conditions of the lubrication part. At the same time, precautions for the use of lubricating grease include ensuring that the grease is clean, using it according to regulations, injecting grease on time and in the correct amount, not mixing it, and regularly checking the quality changes of the grease. Lubricating grease that no longer meets the specified quality requirements should be replaced in a timely manner.
